According to wikipedia, Ghana’s health care sector is the second most corrupt in Africa.
Doctors and/or hospitals apparently :
a) direct patients to their clinics;
b) accept bribes for patients to jump queues;
c) have been caught to have fraudulently charged for procedures that should have been freely offered through international organizations/charity groups;
d) counsel patients to acquire fake drugs,
e) direct patient to private labs and pharmacies where physicians etc have a vested interests;
These diverted services reduce government revenues and causes financial losses to the state because money that could have gone to improving or expanding hospital facilities are directed to the pockets of the same individuals badmouthing “aban” (the government).
The diverted services also result in poor patient care and potential losses of human lives unnecessarily. The poor are known to be the most impacted not surprisingly.
Also, other civil servants, parliamentarians and local authorities are all accepting bribes to grant government licenses, permits or grant government contracts.
So do some self-introspection when blaming a particular group. Are you corrupt too?
Are you accepting any “favours”, “dashes”, “small gifts” before performing your legally mandated duty? Or are you deliberately delaying a service for a legitimate client or customer? Are you allowing or condoning queue jumping? If you are, you’re are part of corruption.
